Our Feelings Demand a Witness

I have read photos for people from all over the world.
One of the big things that I have felt in all of our energy is a disconnection from self and a need to hear our own stories.
I truly believe all of our feelings demand a witness, but that witness is us.
We often hear phrases like safe space, as in “I am a safe space for you to say whatever.”
And as a safe space myself, I feel like that is possible, but there are also limits. Limits to how safe it is for me, and that's not because I don't love and have the capacity for really hard things because I do have that capacity.
It's because we're human, and there are things that I might not be able to hold on a particular day, or I might make a face that causes you to think I mean something that I don't mean.
We all have limited capacity for each other, just simply for the fact that we are human.
There are also a lot of people who simply do not have the capacity for hard conversations.
Conversations have to stay surface level, or it just doesn't work.
Prejudice, preconceived notions, racism, hatred, and cruelty are other factors that limit capacity and create unsafe space. We're seeing so much of this play out in our world right now. We’re seeing a lack of humanity. A lack of people being able to see other people as humans who deserve care and respect.
So it is very understandable to not feel safe enough to tell the full truth of your experience to another human being.
Either for reasons that you have, or for reasons that they have, or just because it's hard and you don't want to.
Given all this, I still believe that our feelings demand a witness. All of our emotions, all of our stories, demand a witness.
We demand a witness for the things that have happened to us, the things that didn't happen to us, that should have happened to us, the things that we wanted to happen.
We need to talk it out, write it out, record the words in some kind of way.
We need to witness ourselves.
Our feelings demand a witness, and that witness is ourselves.
If what I'm saying feels true to you, and you're interested in witnessing yourself and your stories, there's a FREE guided journaling practice called The Mirror linked below.
It's unique. It's kind of like a game. It's kind of like a meditation. It's kind of like a visualization, but it's actually unlike anything I've ever experienced before. And It connects me to me. I see myself. I get to witness myself.
It’s so important that we witness ourselves.
For our own growth and healing. And for the world’s.
Please, check it out.
