Full of Myself

Growing up, my mother said a lot of hateful things to me.
“You’re so vain.”
“You’re so spoiled.”
I will never forget the moment when, as a 12-year-old, I spoke back to her in a way that has become a guiding principle in my life.
I was in the bathroom and she was standing in the doorway, going off on me.
“Oh God,” she said. “You're so full of yourself.”
I turned around and I just looked at her. And then I said:
“Who should I be full of, if not myself?
YOU?
Do you want me to be full of you and empty of me?
That's never gonna happen. I’m not like you.”
And then we just stared at each other.
Who should I be full of, if not myself?
Ever since I was 12, I have claimed this truth: I am so full of myself, there's no room for anything that anybody else thinks about me.
It’s what I think of me that matters.
I feel it is available and possible for all human beings to feel that they know themselves fully.
Not what anybody else told you about who you are, but what you know to be true.
When you listen to yourself, express yourself, and know how you feel, you will know yourself.
The Diner is the how-to guide, the treasure map that leads you toward the statement:
This is who I am.
The Diner plays like a game. The framework is so cool and interesting, and then you bring your life to it: your feelings, your memories, your attitude, your personality.
You bring yourself into The Diner.
The Diner reveals YOU to yourself.
It's the coolest thing.
With love,
Rosalee
